Hazardous Cleaning Products to Avoid Using Around Birds

Some household products are definite no-nos to use around birds as they can harm your bird's respiratory system. Stay away from the following products when cleaning cages and surrounding areas in your home:

• Ozone generators (some air purifiers create Ozone)
• Ionizers
• Aerosols
• Products that emit strong fumes
• Scented candles
• Deodorizers (carpet, fabric and plug-ins)
• Pine oil
• Dry-Cleaning chemicals
• Window cleaners containing ammonia
• Bleach
• Boric acid
• Detergents (have caustic, acidic or alkaline properties)
• Solvents and spot removers
• Acetone
• Spray starch
• Chlorine and bromine
• Furniture polish
• Petroleum distillates
• Quaternary ammoniums

If you must use any of these products, remove your bird from the environment and don't return the bird until all residue and fumes are gone.
