Love Your Bird: Big Bird the Talkative Macaw

Big Bird (Blue and Gold Macaw) started out as my foster bird and she made the decision that I was her person long before I adopted her by snuggling at my feet one day and laying an egg next to my ankle!

She has an extensive vocabulary and uses her words appropriately. One day my husband and I were out to lunch when he got a call from a UPS driver wanting to know why we wouldn't open the door. The conversation the driver had went something like this: Driver rings the doorbell. "Hello!" comes from the house. "I have a package for you, can you come to the door to sign for it?" he says. "Okay!" from the house. He waits, nobody opens the door. "Hello? Can you open the door?" "Okay!" Nothing happens. So, he calls the number. My husband breaks out laughing and explains, "We aren't home. You're talking to the parrot!" So far, Big Bird has convinced the UPS driver, a pedestrian and a salesman that she's human.
